Edesign - what is it and how does it work?
Just this month DTI launched our brand new edesign / virtual interior design program - a labour of love that took several months to put together! Since the launch, I've had a few questions about what this edesign thing is all about and just how does a virtual interior design program work? So I thought I'd use this week's blog post to explain the process!
What exactly IS edesign?
Edesign is a short term for virtual interior design and basically it means, interior design services delivered by virtual methods. Rather than a designer coming into your home in person, you meet with a designer usually over video call and all your deliverables are sent via email or a sharing platform, depending on the business.
Benefits of Edesign...
Because a designer is not driving to your home and spending personal time with you, virtual interior design packages are typically less costly than traditional design services. Additionally, the scope of work is fixed which means you have a fixed cost to the package. You know exactly how much you're spending and what you're paying for.
Plus, you still benefit from having an experienced interior designer put together a curated space for you! In the case of the renovation style packages DTI is offering, you will also have a design floor plan including 3D images that you can bring to your contractor to build what you want!
Drawbacks of Edesign...
As a few of my clients stated when I was doing the research on an edesign offering, you don't get the personal experience with edesign. Savings or no, they want the 'Real Amy Experience'. Plus, with virtual interior design, you will need to do a lot of the legwork yourself - measuring the space, taking pictures, placing product, etc.
The good news is, in the DTI Edesign Welcome Packet, you do receive instructions on how to measure your space properly and when you receive your final design package, you also receive a floor plan with instructions to place the product.
So how does it work?
From business to business, the process may vary slightly so let me tell you how the DTI process works. First, you purchase the appropriate package from our website. When you are in the process of purchase, you will be asked to supply relevant information (name, address, etc). After you purchase the package, you'll receive our Welcome Packet and a link to the Google form where we collect the bulk of the info we need to work on your project. In the Google form, you tell us about your style, share inspiration images, give us your budget, upload your measurements and images of your space, etc.
Once we receive all the information we need, we set up a Zoom meeting with you so we can meet "face to face", learn more about you and what you're looking for and determine the timeline for your project. Then we get to work putting together a fabulous design plan for you!
A few weeks after our first meeting (depending on the timeline you've been given), you'll receive a full design plan. You can review it and, if needed, request revisions as included in your package. Once we have the final plan, you'll receive the final mood boards, shopping list, etc and you're ready to rock! Then we have one last virtual meeting (over Zoom) to go over any questions you may have, or, if you've purchased and installed everything, you can ask us last detail questions, like should that chair be there or move over a few inches, etc.
Next, have a party!
The last step is to have a party! Invite your friends and fam jam over to check out your new space, share some bubbly with you and tell you how amazing they think you are!
