One of my favorite things as a designer is the opportunity to meet with industry insiders to see what's up and coming. Often before it hits the market (for all of you awesome people to see and touch), designers have the opportunity to learn about the new products and trends. Today I was lucky enough to visit Robinson Lighting & Bath Calgary and meet the national sales manager of Currey and Company, Kristin Ireland. And I'm going to share what I got to learn with you!
Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Currey and Co has been around since 1988. Among other cool things about the company, they initially got their start as a supplier of historic garden furnishings, creating and marketing classic pieces from the Winterthur Museum and the Smithsonian Institution under the moniker Garden Source Furnishings (1). It wasn't until the early '90's that the company started to branch into other avenues, including lighting, consequently changing their name to Currey and Company.
Today, they continue to make gorgeous pieces, ranging in style and detail, all of them made by hand. Yup, by hand!! The detail the company goes through to ensure the elements of the fixtures stands out first and foremost is amazing!
Going beyond the typical materials seen in lighting, Currey and Co reaches out to concrete, wrought iron, cotton and many, many more to create show stopping pieces for their clientele. This one is my favorite, featuring a mix of concrete and wrought iron.
Not just stopping at light fixtures, Currey and Co also features a line of accent furniture that range from breathtaking to stop-dead-in-your-tracks.
